Tap water for your aquarium

Tap water is a convenient and readily available source for filling your aquarium, but it often contains chlorine or chloramine, chemicals used to disinfect drinking water. While safe for humans, these compounds are harmful to fish, invertebrates, and microorganisms in your aquarium.

Chlorine and chloramine can harm fish gills, disrupt biological filtration, and even kill aquarium inhabitants. Properly treating your water ensures a safe and healthy environment for your aquatic pets.

Aquarium water conditioners are the easiest and fastest way to neutralize chlorine and chloramine. Add the recommended dose to your tap water, and it's ready for your aquarium in seconds.

At ADF, we use municipal tap water for many of our habitats. Seachem Prime is our standard, but there are many similar products with sodium thiosulfate, the compound used to dechlorinate our water to make it even safer for our aquatic pets.

By dechlorinating tap water, you’re taking a critical step toward maintaining a thriving, stress-free aquarium!
